A long time ago, I was a professional musician. Later I was writing again, this time with computer synthesizers. Fast-forward to today, the band behind my lyrics is artificial, artificial intelligence that is. My songs are free under Creative Commons. Download the show free, and steal what you need for any non-commercial use, like your own green podcast or broadcast. I’m Alex Smith. For the love of a good planet, this is music of resistance and despair.
We begin with a mix of optimism and prayer, and it all goes downhill from there. The show starts with “Power from Above” by New England folk singer Dan Berggren.
As record fossil fuels fill the air, we just hit the “Accelerator” Lyrics by Alex Smith, music generated by Artificial Intelligence.
From California to Canada, whole towns in the West were burned out by horrendous wildfires. After Jasper Alberta burned in 2024, I was moved to write – for everyone chased out of homes and communities by climate extremes. With AI music, this is “Nowhere to Go”.
This next one came after astounding fires in Greece. “Sold Out”, lyrics by Alex, AI music.
When a hurricane curled up to flood Appalachia, I wrote this for friends in Asheville, North Carolina: “Time to Go”.
With atmospheric rivers hitting hard, anywhere can flood, from the Sahara to China. “Flood Fear” by Alex and AI.
Over the past two years, climate-fueled record-smashing extreme weather flared up all over the world. Even scientists were surprised. This tune with AI music and Alex lyrics calls up feelings in many: “They Never Told Us.”
Welcome to the “New Hot World” from Alex and AI.
By accident, years ago I heard a mysterious group called “Ghostly Penguin Display” with their warming song: “Endless Summer”.
Yeah, it’s a “Pressure Cooker”. Alex and AI.
We will fix failures of technology, they say, with more machines. We just need “Shades of the Sun” – Alex and AI for Radio Ecoshock.
Some profit from the whirlwind while billions suffer in a changed atmosphere. They want are waiting “Until Climate Justice Comes”. Alex and AI.
No wonder I’ve got those “Heat Wave Blues”.
By all means, “Stay Cool” Alex Smith lyrics with AI music.
But I’m still “Overheated” – a short show song with words by Alex and AI music.
Artists unknown: celebrating the largest marine oil spill in U.S. history: the Deepwater Horizon disaster of 2010, owned by British Petroleum. With “BP: Anything Goes”.
It’s even a heat wave “Down Under” the surface, in this Alex/AI show song.
Let Nature speak, with this Alex/AI song: “I Am the Sea.” It’s kind of a love song too.
The Doomers among us think all this is “Closing Soon”. Alex/AI.
You may even believe “Worse Will Come” by Alex and AI band.
Or will AI become our “Artificial Savior”?
Let’s go to more of the best green music in past years. Steve Forbert sings “Good Planets Are Hard to Find”. Later with the Occupy movement and continuing today, we need Canadian singer/song-writer Rachel Van Zanten: “My Country”.
I’m Alex Smith, thank you for listening to this music version of Radio Ecoshock. Next week we return with more breaking science of the world around you. Closing out: “Time of Trials”. I wrote all the music using virtual synthesizers, with my own voice.
Playing it at our Veterans for Peace, 350 and Fridays for Future climate bicycyle event today.

Thank you so much. Been playing 2013 and 2012 music shows for months of Friday actions.
Very creative work. I recognize several songs from earlier shows and played them on my community radio show “The Climate Report”. I plan to play more of these songs soon. Thanks Alex!
This is great news. I’ve been listening for new climate songs but not satisfied. Beginners can make the lyrics too preachy, coming on to fast. We hope to use art and development found in poetry. These songs are tools with a mood.
