IN REVERSE CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER… starting with our most recent show
2026 SEASON
Glaciers extinct & wildfires out of control January 21, 2026 – In 15 years, Earth will lose thousands of glaciers every year. New science on “Peak glacier extinction” – Swiss glaciologist Lander Van Tricht. Australia over 45 degrees C, 113 F. – and burning again. “Gazing into the Flames” – wildfire expert Hamish Clarke. More buildings lost to wildfires in the U.S. – Dr. Amanda Carlson. Cold to really hot this week on Radio Ecoshock. The Very Thing That Makes You Rich January 14, 2026 – “Climate change has already made the United States poorer” Arizona Economics Professor Derek Lemoine reports. How could carbon from our tailpipes make the sea acidic? Exactly how does that work? Tulane Chemist Bruce Gibb explains with a great 15 minute mini-lecture on Radio Ecoshock. Welcome. I’m Alex Smith. Meet the Evil Twin – Ocean Acidification January 7, 2026 – New science shows ocean acidification has already passed the safety limit set by the Planetary Boundary Framework. We reached a founder in the field, recently retired NOAA Senior Research Scientist Dr. Richard Feely. That is coming up, but first an introduction from Biological Oceanographer and Lead Author Dr. Helen Findlay from the UK’s Plymouth Marine Laboratory. Even if carbon dioxide was not a greenhouse gas, our emissions would seriously damage the majority of Earth’s life. Humans cannot directly see it. Acidification involves science few people have. No industry or even special interest gains by communicating this threat. Ocean acidification has been called “the evil twin of global warming”. I’m Alex Smith, welcome to this in-depth reporting on ocean acidification. Download or listen to this Radio Ecoshock show in CD Quality (57 MB) or Lo-Fi (14 MB)
